Green Giraffe advised Pika Energy on its partnership with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners to build a 20-plant biomethane platform in Italy
Pika Energy and HBA contributed their combined development pipeline to a newly formed company, Via Verde, backed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners through its Advanced Bioenergy Fund II. Via Verde operates with its own team to take the projects through to final investment decision, with CIP acquiring each project as it clears due diligence and demonstrates a clear path to FID.
The platform comprises 20 projects across Lombardy, Abruzzo, Campania and other Italian regions. Each plant is expected to process 60,000 to 100,000 tonnes of agricultural waste a year. Once all 20 are operational, Via Verde will deliver approximately 1 TWh of biomethane annually, equivalent to the annual gas consumption of around 60,000 Italian households.
The partnership gives Pika Energy a funded route to market and gives CIP a ready-made development platform in one of Europe’s fastest-growing biomethane markets. It is Green Giraffe Advisory’s second biomethane closing of the year.

Green Giraffe advised on the full divestment of APF Energy, a growing biomethane platform in the Netherlands, to Schroders Greencoat, on behalf of our clients SWEN Capital Partners and APF BV.
The platform currently comprises 6 assets, including 3 fully operational sites and 3 at construction stage, plus a late-stage pipeline. These generate biomethane from a feedstock mix of agricultural manure and food by-products, addressing nitrate challenges associated with the Netherlands’ livestock industry.
The Orchid transaction brings in Schroders Greencoat as a long-term institutional partner to support APF Energy’s next phase of growth and positions the platform at the heart of the Dutch energy transition, at a time when biomethane is becoming increasingly strategic for decarbonisation.

Sale of a majority stake in an operational biomethane plant
Green Giraffe Advisory supported Green Create in the sale of a majority stake in its Wijster project to Vauban Infrastructure Partners. Green Create develops, builds, owns and operates integrated biological waste-to-value systems which process organic waste or wastewater streams to generate energy-rich biogas.
The Wijster plant, located in the Netherlands, is one of Europe’s largest biomethane production plants with a current biomethane installed capacity of 237 GWh/year to be injected in the Dutch grid. The plant is an anaerobic digestion plant designed to process primarily poultry manure, with ability to operate with diversified feedstock such as organic waste. The Wijster plant has been operating since 2022, and the project encompasses two planned extensions. Through these scheduled expansions, the Wijster plant will have a total capacity of circa 554 GWh.
Green Giraffe advised on the sale process including support in defining the adequate sale strategy, preparing the due diligence material, the information package and the financial model, and assistance in negotiations with investors.
