In January 2016, Groningen Sea Ports, Sunport Energy and Wirsol announced the sale of the Sunport Delfzijl solar park by Sunport Energy to Wirsol. With Groningen Sea Ports as partner, Wirsol constructed and will operate the project. Wirsol started the construction works in the spring of 2016 and the project is connected to the grid and supplied its first solar power in November 2016
The project is built with an unusual east-west orientation of the solar panels, which in this case allows for a more efficient use of the plot and a better production profile over the day. It currently is by far the largest solar park in The Netherlands and will help contribute to the increase in renewable energy production in the Eemsdelta region
Green Giraffe has been involved as financial advisor to Sunport Delfzijl and actively supported in the final phase of project development and contract negotiations, including the bid for the SDE+ tariff
