Windcollectief Wieringermeer (WCW), the collective of 32 local turbine owners developing the Wieringermeer wind farm, have sold the 115 MW project to Vattenfall with Green Giraffe’s support. We had initially been hired by WCW to redevelop the site, which entailed replacing the existing turbines with newer models and relocating them to create a more locally concentrated wind farm. The transaction closed in September 2017.
Our mandate included:
- Analysis of offers from potential buyers
- Support during negotiations
- Supervision of due diligence process
About Windfarm Wieringermeer:
The Wieringermeer wind farm will be in the Wieringermeer polder in Noord-Holland, and will be operational in 2020.
There are currently 93 turbines on the site, of which 35 are spread across a large area. In 2013 the municipality of Hollands Kroon drafted a plan to reduce the visual impact of the wind turbines on the polder. This will be achieved by replacing existing turbines with new modern turbines which will be placed in line arrays.
The Wieringermeer wind farm redevelopment was initiated by the existing turbines owners, namely Nuon (50 turbines), ECN (17 turbines) and WCW (32 turbines). The Windkracht partnership is the joint venture formed by these entities.
“Thanks to Green Giraffe’s role in the development, and eventually the sale of Wieringermeer wind farm, we have achieved a great financial result for all the members of WCW. The excellent presentations for all the members and accurate work and advice on all key topics in this transaction, made the board of the WCW extremely glad to have appointed Green Giraffe as their financial advisor.”
